Decentraland will introduce an app with sweeping improvements

The Decentraland metaverse, built on the Ethereum blockchain, is set to introduce a desktop application that promises significant improvements in graphics and overall platform performance.

This new development aims to address the limitations of the current browser version, which has faced criticism for various technical issues.

The public beta testing of the desktop client will commence on October 22, providing users with a more stable and user-friendly way to access the virtual world.

What Can Users Expect fr om the Update?

The updated application features substantially enhanced visual effects and gameplay mechanics. While maintaining a cartoonish aesthetic, the detail in objects has increased, animations are now smoother, and the environment feels more dynamic. Additionally, the platform's performance has been upgraded, resulting in faster loading times and higher frame rates.

Agnieszka Besh, the manager of the Decentraland engineering team, stated that the desktop client can support a larger number of users simultaneously. "Now, even with over 200 avatars present in one location, the performance remains robust," Besh commented. Previously, the lim it for users in a single space was capped at 100.

This update places a strong emphasis on enhancing social interactions within Decentraland. Planned features include quests and reward systems that will help track player progress and boost their social engagement.

The annual Decentraland music festival, scheduled for November and lasting three days, is expected to serve as a key test for the platform's new capabilities.

What Are Decentraland's Future Plans?

At this stage, the developers are focused on launching the desktop client, but they also have plans for integration with virtual reality (VR) in the future.

VR is seen as a way to enhance social interactions within the metaverse; however, the implementation of this technology is slated to occur only after the desktop version is fully optimized.

The release of the desktop client marks a significant milestone in enhancing Decentraland’s overall functionality and user convenience. The public beta will be available starting October 22 for users on Mac and Windows devices.
