Wu-Tang Clan's "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" Album Now Partially Accessible to the Public via Encrypted NFTs. PleasrDAO, the current rights holder, has released a five-minute album sampler priced at $1.
Wu-Tang Clan has unveiled their exclusive album "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin," now available to a wider audience in the form of encrypted NFTs. The current rights holder, PleasrDAO, has released a five-minute sampler of the album, purchasable for $1.
The Album's website offers a sampler including previously unreleased verses from Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, and Redman, along with excerpts from several tracks of the 31-track double album.
Despite the album being purchasable for $1, buyers receive only small excerpts from it.
The sampler, sold as an NFT, will be hosted on the Base platform, with distribution managed by Pleasr in collaboration with Privy, Crossmint, and Holograph.
PleasrDAO announced that additional music from the album will be made available as they collaborate with the original artists. A full release is planned, although contractual obligations prevent its release until October 8, 2103.
Each purchase of the sampler decreases the countdown to the full album release by 88 seconds. Until then, the album will remain encrypted and sold using the $ALBUM cryptocurrency.
The album's story dates back to a private listening event on March 2, 2015, wh ere RZA and producer Cilvaringz presented the album to 150 invitees. This session remains the sole public presentation of the album to date.
